Our Story
Glen Lake Surf Co. was born when Caleb Greene, a recent high school graduate, imagined custom surfboards handcrafted in Northern Michigan. He bought some foam blanks and started shaping boards in his garage. Today, Caleb works alongside Richard Butcher, an industrial arts high school teacher, to handcraft surfboards.
The duo work together and build surf boards that embody their love for Michigan and its beautiful lakes and the surfing lifestyle that comes from it. At GLSC, we build surfboards that are different because of their Michigan roots and high quality.
Glen Lake Surf Co. was founded in 2020 on the shores of beautiful Glen Lake.
In June of 2020, Glen Lake Surf Co was born. The idea to build custom wake surfboards was born on a slow summer day on Glen Lake. Wake surfing has been rapidly growing in popularity, and the founder, Caleb Greene, was experiencing this growth firsthand. After building his own surfboard and loving the process, he decided to build a few more for fellow surfers on the lake. The company continued to grow, and, in 2021, Caleb continued to expand, building more boards and launching a line of Glen Lake Surf Co apparel. Early in the summer, Caleb’s high school teacher, mentor, and friend, Richard Butcher, began to work alongside Glen Lake Surf Co. Today, along with Caleb’s brother and sister, the two strive to build custom wake surfboards for surfing enthusiasts. Glen Lake Surf Co gives 1% of its sales back to the Glen Lake Association, who works to protect the water we all love.
The essence of Glen Lake Surf Co. lies above: we do this because we love surfing, and we want to share it.
